What we see on job sites
Trex Transcend and TimberTech Vintage are the two lines we install most in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton. Both look great and hold up well through PA winters. The biggest practical difference: TimberTech Vintage has a slightly more realistic wood grain and their 4-sided capping means the board edges look better on visible fascia and stair risers.
Trex wins on availability and price. Local lumber yards in the Lehigh Valley stock Trex year-round. TimberTech sometimes requires a 2-3 week lead time on specific colors. That matters if you're trying to get your deck built before summer.
Budget tier: Trex Enhance vs TimberTech Edge
If budget is your main concern, Trex Enhance is hard to beat. Installed, you're looking at $12-$14 per square foot in our area. TimberTech Edge runs about $14-$16 installed. Both are solid entry-level composites, but Trex Enhance has been around longer and we have more 8-10 year track record data on it locally.
Premium tier: Trex Transcend vs TimberTech Vintage
This is where it gets close. Trex Transcend runs $16-$18 per square foot installed. TimberTech Vintage is $18-$22. The price gap is real, but TimberTech Vintage boards are noticeably thicker and the color depth is a step above. If you want the most natural wood look without the maintenance, TimberTech Vintage is the better product. If you want excellent quality at a lower price point, Transcend delivers.
Which should you pick?
- Choose Trex if budget matters, you want fast availability, or you're building a straightforward deck where board edges won't be visible.
- Choose TimberTech if you want the most realistic wood look, need 4-sided capping for exposed edges, or prefer a longer fade warranty.
- Either works for a standard backyard deck in the Lehigh Valley or Poconos. We've never had a callback on either brand for material failure.
