What is the most durable decking you install?

TimberTech Advanced PVC (Vintage, Landmark, Harvest) does not absorb moisture and carries a limited lifetime residential product warranty. Trex Transcend and Signature, and Fiberon Concordia, are the composite equivalents — 25 to 50 years on the board, lifetime performance on Concordia. All of them outlast pressure-treated pine in a PA/NJ freeze-thaw climate.

How much does a typical deck cost?

Installed, pressure-treated wood runs about $25–50 per square foot, Trex Enhance $43–70, and Trex Transcend $65–90. A 280 sq ft family deck in Enhance usually lands in the mid-teens of thousands before railing upgrades. Use the calculator on this page, then book a site visit for a bid.

What maintenance does composite need?

Soap, water, and a soft brush. No stain, no sealer, no sanding. Manufacturer fade & stain terms assume you are not using a pressure washer on turbo and not leaving rubber mats in one spot for a season.

Does the manufacturer warranty cover labour?

No. Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon all exclude labour and freight to replace a defective board. As a TrexPro Platinum installer we add our own labour coverage — 10 years when Trex decking and Trex railing go in as one system.

Most attached decks and any deck more than 30 inches off grade need a permit in PA and NJ. We pull them.

Two different products under one name: Advanced PVC (Vintage, Landmark, Harvest) with a lifetime product term, and composite (Prime+) with 25 years. Mixing those up is the most common mistake on this page.

Vintage is TimberTech's designer Advanced PVC collection: highly colour-blended, wire-brushed, and made of recycled polymers with no wood fibers. It will not absorb moisture, splinter, or rot.

Landmark

Landmark is Advanced PVC with a Limited Lifetime product warranty and 50-year fade & stain. The palette runs from American Walnut to French White Oak — less tropical streaking than Vintage.

Concordia is Fiberon's premium PE composite: a wood-plastic core with a four-sided PermaTech cap, reversible, with a flat-profile bottom. Three collections — Horizon, Symmetry, and Astir — share the same warranty.

Wood

Still the right answer when the first cheque has to be small, or when the client wants a board that is actually wood. The maintenance is not optional.

Pressure-treated pine

Southern yellow pine treated against rot and termites. It is the budget board. It will check, cup, and grey unless you clean and re-stain it every one to two years.

Natural, unstained

Installed: $25–50/sq ft installed
Product warranty: Limited structural warranty against rot and termites only — excludes labour, not transferable
Fade & stain: None — stain is maintenance, not a warranty

The preservative warranty covers structural failure from rot and termites only. It excludes splitting, checking, cupping, and labour, and it ends when the house is sold.

Western red cedar

Western red cedar is naturally resistant to rot and insects. Left unfinished it silvers. Sealed, it keeps the warm red-brown. There is no manufacturer warranty — the WRCLA is a trade association, not a warrantor.

Natural, clear-sealed

Fade & stain: None
Upkeep: Medium

Lightweight and easy to work. Still needs periodic sealing if you want the original colour.
